All these guys came to us from a puppy mill. They were in a terrible and gross state of grossness. Thankfully they've at least had baths now. Typical puppy mill breeding dogs...completely unsocialized, neglected and terrified of the world. Puppy Mill breeders NEVER see grass, socialize with dogs outside their litters, never go for walks and never have human interaction other than introduction of more dogs into an already cramped space.
One of the greatest little tiny things I love about working here at Unleash & Dog Habitat is the HSUS pledge on a small magnet on the door: "We love puppies. And that's why we don't sell them"
Please don't buy from pet stores, it only continues the cycle of neglect, abuse, inbreeding and lack of respect for a species we have so strongly bonded with. Adopt or seek a reputable breeder.
Also remember...when a pet store assures you that they get puppies from breeders...know that a REPUTABLE breeder who TRULY cares about their dogs (and the breed) would never EVER sell their puppies to a pet stores. A reputable breeder would take back any dog they've brought into the world if the owner was no longer able to care for it. A reputable breeder follows the rule of 7's for raising litters which involves a rigorous schedule of socialization to guarantee that he or she is selling bomb-proof puppies.
For every puppy purchased from a pet store, a dog dies in a kill shelter. PLEASE adopt!
